So much is mentioned about heaven and earth in the Bible. The city of Zion features as that wonderful city of God.
Z – zealous
I – interest
O – observed in
N – never ending newness of life
Zion represents the spiritual kingdom of God and the fulfilment of hope for the believer when the heavenly Jerusalem will be established forever.
Hebrews 12:22 says, “But you have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem. You have come to thousands upon thousands of angels in joyful assembly,”
Psalms 146:10 says, “The Lord reigns forever, your God, O Zion, for all generations. Praise the Lord.”
Zion is seen as a refuge in the Old Testament and a prophecy for the fulfilment of God’s redemption plan through Christ Jesus. Isaiah 28:16 says, “So this is what the Sovereign Lord says: “See, I lay a stone in Zion, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone for a sure foundation; the one who relies on it will never be stricken with panic.” Jesus is our cornerstone and our foundation. He is our mediator and our soon coming King.
We have the assurance from Jesus that He will come back for us. John 14:1-3 says, ““Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God ; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.”
In 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 we read, “For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.”
What a wonderful time that will be when we see Jesus as King of Glory! There will be no more tears, no more sorrow and no more death. ◊
