We are told time and time again that we need to make prayer a habit – not just something we do when we have a need. Often, when there is a dire situation that we are faced with, we reach out to others to pray for us. Very often it is that dire situation that causes us to reach out to God in prayer. Why should it be so?
Prayer ought to be a two-way street; it involves relationship. Imagine you study, work, get a girl and marry her. You then go to work, get a promotion in another city and move there (alone) and send money to your wife for her needs. But you do not phone her or visit her – you don’t keep contact with her. Is that a relationship? You might laugh out loud and say, ‘no – that’s weird!’
Isn’t it strange that many people think it’s okay to pray only when they have a need? Strange, but true! Are you one of these people who fit into that category? Prayer is a two way street – it involves relationship!
The word of God is our handbook. There are countless scriptures that direct us towards seeking God’s face all the time. Yes, we pray when we have a need, but what about when we have something to be thankful for – like narrowly missing a head-on collision with another vehicle. You might gasp in shock and utter ‘thank God’ like it’s a common cliche. Do you look up to God and sincerely thank Him?
Here is the associated ‘P’ word for this blog:
P – pray
U – until
S – something
H – happens
When we pray, we should use the formula of A.C.T.S. – adore, confess, thanks, supplications (our requests).
Read these scriptures:
Pray without ceasing – 1 Thessalonians 5:16-17
Pray in all earnesty – Colossians 4:2-6
Pray with deep conviction – James 1:6
Pray with certainty – 1 John 5:14
I pray that you build a strong relationship with God through your prayer life. Use the P.U.S.H. principle and see how you catapult from merely existing to triumphant, victory living. ◊
