Let us examine wisdom and foolishness in the light of obedience:
A wise person listens to good counsel but a foolish person thinks he knows better and does things his own way.
This story that Jesus told the people puts the point very clearly:““Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”” Matthew 7:24-27 NIV
Let us look at disobedience and obedience:
There are consequences for our actions. Adam brought sin into this world and Christ Jesus brought new life.
Romans 5:18-19 ESV says, “Therefore, as one trespass led to condemnation for all men, so one act of righteousness leads to justification and life for all men. For as by the one man’s disobedience the many were made sinners, so by the one man’s obedience the many will be made righteous.”
Put simply, the first man, Adam sinned and the whole of mankind was condemned. We inherited his sin nature and as Adam was exiled from the Garden of Eden, mankind was exiled and alienated from God. To reconcile man back to God, a sinless person had to be found.
So Father God sent His One and Only Son to Earth to save mankind. Jesus Christ paid the penalty of our sin by surrendering His life as a ransom for us. He was obedient to do the will of Father God.
Now we who accept that His Son died for our sins, turn away from our sins and follow Jesus Christ and live in obedience to God and His decrees, receive an assurance for life. As followers of Jesus Christ, we are promised the gift of eternal life with God.
Jesus himself said, “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God ; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.” John 14:1-3 NIV
We who obey Jesus are at peace with God because of what Jesus did for us. It was death through Adam but it is life through Jesus Christ.◊
