Abandoned, rejected, looked down upon, labeled and despised. These are strong words describing strong, heartfelt issues. What do you say to someone who finds them self in that situation? HOPE! Is that remotely possible?
A three month old baby girl is abandoned by her own mother? Why? Because her biological father is of a lower social status than her family. Is life so cheap? Twenty six years later this girl searches for her parents and flies 1000’s of miles to meet them. But again she is rejected and returns home desolate and incomplete. Will she ever forget? Today, she works hard and parties hard but the void still remains.
When we have a problem in our body, we do not think twice about going to the doctor. We pop some pills in our mouth and magically, within a few days, we are well again. But can doctors solve all our problems? Many people seem to think so. Yet when the problem has underlying issues, generally the symptoms are treated rather than the cause. This can go on for years and years yet the cause is not examined. The treatment intensifies with the passing of time as the physical body becomes immune to the drugs administered to make the person cope better with life. Since the problem does not go away, the person is labeled as having a chronic condition. This is very often the case with people with mental health issues.
Having a label means you are set apart from other people. You are seen differently and treated differently. Very often jobs prospects are limited because people have preconceived ideas of the label the medical profession has given you. It is as though you are a lesser human being. This cuts right down to the bone and the pain associated with it is often insufferable. Everybody deserves a fair chance in this life. It is the only one we have here on earth.
When you have been looked down upon, often by the ones you love the most, it hurts really bad. If you are born with a medical condition, especially if it is physically visible, you might get some sympathy. But when you acquire an illness, everything changes. People struggle to get around the idea that you are no longer able to function at the same optimal level. It is as though you have let them down. If you were working, you are simply replaced. Life goes on. But what is this thing we call life? Is it about getting a career, being successful, driving a nice car and living in a big house? Even the king of pop, Michael Jackson, left this earth with none of his vast worldly treasure. Life on this earth is momentary. We are like flowers in the field; we grow, we blossom, we give off aroma and we wither and die. For some people their flower is plucked too soon.
So where does HOPE come in? The God of the universe, the One who made even our tiny planet amidst the great galaxies, offers us HOPE. He knows our human frailty and struggles with life. That is why He sent His only Son, the Lord Jesus Christ to walk this earth as a man, experience all the frailty of man and put Himself as a blood offering to redeem our life and give us the gift of eternal life with Him and our great God of the universe. You have HOPE! You are never ever abandoned, rejected, looked down upon, labeled and despised by your Maker. Look at the gold He offers us in John 3:16 & 17. You will be a fool not to take it. *
